We are happy to inform you about our initiatives in The Gambia, West Africa. A last minute flight took us here in march 2004.
Our first stay has been an impressive experience!
The people are warm hearted, friendly, and despite they are deprived of may things, the Gambian people share what they have. ‘It’s Nice to be Nice’, is often heard, and as the name for our foundation almost predictable.
It has been very special to meet with people and country, which differs in so many ways from ours; The Gambia is amongst one of the poorest countries in the world.
Making the acquaintances of the teachers and the educational system, first put us into thinking and next into taking up action.
During our stay in March 2004, we met several Gambian people, amongst who Bakary Ndure, guide and volunteer teacher.
The effort and the passion of the people to give the children a chance for education, impressed us very deeply.
Back in our home country, provided with all the luxury and comfort Europe offers, we took up action to find a way to in which we can also provide in structural support in improving the chances of kids to get education. We also would like to improve general conditions.
This African experience thus very soon led to the foundation Nice to be Nice, in very close co working with Bakary Ndure. In 2006 he found a co worker in Amadou Fadera and since then they work together on the projects of the foundation.
We visit the Gambia at least once a year and during the rest of the year the projects are managed by our colleagues in the Gambia.
